w·art·hog provides a framework for artists and scientists to define and address problems that require a cross-disciplinary approach.

We treat both paths as distinct ways of seeing the world, and as complementary. We believe that thoughtfully planned art and science initiatives can contribute meaningful insight towards more livable futures across many scales.

In our capacity as members of w·art·hog we establish which projects or ideas are worth pursuing, make art works that require scientific expertise, conduct scientific experiments prompted by artistic inquiry, co-author books and articles, design interdisciplinary curricula, supervise student research and projects, match colleagues, organize winter and summer schools, conduct field research trips, and distribute our research through a series of public events.

w·art·hog is a network of colleagues, with collaborators spread across the Netherlands, France, Lebanon, Egypt, Belgium, Norway, Iceland, and the UK. Our past and ongoing projects include works exploring blends of natural and artificial, the critique and implementation of novel technologies, cellular agriculture and the future of farms, the development of media ethologies as a way of furthering interspecies knowledge, the notion of other-than-human time, and several other works, usually anchored around ecology and the near future. The founding team of this initiative is situated at Wageningen University.
